KMS Cycling Team Program Detailed Overview

The KMS Cycling Team is a comprehensive junior cycling development program. The team is coached by 1985 US Junior Worlds Team Member, 1989 US Collegiate National Champion, past pro racer and 30- year racing veteran, Peter Vollers, and Development Team Coach, Brad Ramsay. All team equipment and technical assistance is provided by the The Start House Ski and Bike Shop in Woodstock, Vermont.

The program starts with children of young ages with weekly bike rides (on any bike) from the Start House. These rides are organized by our elite and development team members so we have immediate integration of all levels of the team. During the summer months on Tuesday evenings, some of our cubs/kids team members have their first racing experience on the mini infield track at Twin-State Speedway in Claremont, NH and our cubs are encouraged to take part in the many cub-level cyclocross races taking place all over New England in the fall and winter.

From our cubs/kids team, the riders progress to the KMS Development Team. Many team members will also join our program at this level. KMS Development Team members focus their racing on New England prep school league racing as well Eastern Conference Collegiate Racing in the spring (KMS worked with USA Cycling and eastern conference promoters and officials to arrange for any high school student in the country to register a team and race in the well-developed collegiate conference races) and northeast region USAC races, including the entire fall/winter cyclocross season.

From our development team, some of our top juniors graduate to the KMS/Start House Cycling Team (KMS elite team). These riders are heavily supported with racing bikes for both road and cyclocross from Trek and Bontrager from the Start House, free kits and help with entry fees and travel expenses so they can attend international races like the International Junior Tour of Ireland , the Tour de Rimouski, the US Junior National Championships and other top level races. The team also takes part in the full New England cyclocross season.

Many of the riders on both the KMS development team and the elite team attend our sponsoring school, Killington Mountain School, which now offers a full-time cycling program where students in grades 8 thru 12 can attend the school while taking part in the KMS Cycling Team program. Just like with KMS' skiing and snowboarding programs, the cycling student-athlete's curriculum is arranged around their training and racing program to allow for maximum flexibility. The KMS school program is a great way for kids who are not from the Woodstock area to take part in our program and train and race with the team on a full-time basis.

If you're interested in the KMS Cycling Team program, please contact Head Coach, Peter Vollers, at pvollers@killingtonmountainschool.org or call him at 802-291-2419 or KMS Development Team Coach, Brad Ramsay, at bramsay@killingtonmountainschool.org.

Holderness RESULTS

http://www.prepschoolcycling.com/

I just want to say now how proud I am of all of you.  Cam gets 7th in the A's after dropping his chain in the beginning and chasing for miles.    Peter Jr. almost cracks the top 20 in the A's racing against kids 2 feet taller than him.   Kenny breaks away solo in the B's and still finishes top 15 while Ansel, still nursing a broken leg, gets 5th!   And Alden slugs it out in the C's to get 12th out of a field of almost 30 finishers and he's also only 13!   Lastly, Julian maintains a great attitude after crashing and having to hitch a ride.  Very proud of all of you guys and really looking forward a great weekend of racing coming up!

Weekend plans

Meet at SH tonight at 5 pm to check bikes, then short easy ride.   Team dinner at my house afterwards and then anyone staying over is welcome.

Saturday:  Leaving my house at 6 am.   Races start 9-9:30 am.  Lunch on the road after the race, then off-roading, then over to Gould with dinner on the way.   Camping out in the Gould gym.

Sunday:  Gould RR at 11:00 am.   We'll get up, go to breakfast, then drive the course, then head to the race.  Should be back to Woodstock between 5 and 6 pm Sun. night.

Here's what to bring:   $100-$125 for meals and off-roading.   Sleeping bag and thermorest or some other type of sleeping pad and pillow.   Racing kit with two base-layers.  We'll try to stop at a laundramat on Sat night, so make sure your name is on all of your racewear.  Two water bottles on your bike.

Julian and Zach, reg is now closed for Turtle Pond, but you can register day of.  Entry fee will be $20.

See you all at 5!

Plan for week of April 19

Fantastic job at the race yesterday guys!   You guys made a great showing and learned about riding in the pack and setting up for the final sprint.

Here's the plan for the week:

Monday:  1.5 hour plus endurance ride.   We'll meet at 5 pm at the SH and do the Quechee loop with the optional Noyes Hill at the end.  Pick-up will be at 7 pm from my house.

Tuesday:  rest day, no training.

Wednesday:  Holderness Race:  Meet at the SH at 10 am, leave by 10:30.   Arrive at HA at noon and drive the course.  Registration at 1:30, race at 3:00 pm, home between 7 and 8 pm.

Thursday:  rest day, easy 1/2 hour ride on your own.

Friday:  45 min. ride with a couple of jumps.  Meet at 5 pm at the SH, check all the bikes, do a short shakedown ride, then load the van.   Since we have to leave no later than 6 am on Sat. morning, all racers are welcome to stay at our house Fri night.  We have guest bed / couch space for 5, plenty of floor space and all of the recent European spring classic races loaded on the DVR, so please do feel free.  Kim will make her killer spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread, which is not to be missed!

Saturday:  Turtle Pond Circuit Race:   please pre-enter asap.   We'll leave my house at 6 pm sharp.  Races start between 9 and 9:30 am.  We'll do the race and then head up to Gould Academy afterwards.   We have permission to "camp" in the Gould Acacemy Gym, so bring your thermarests, sleeping bags and pillows.

Special surprise:  I'm thinking we grab some lunch after the race on the way up north and, afterwards, stop in at Alpine Adventures in Lincoln, NH and do their Off-Road Safari Adventure.  For those game for the adventure, bring an extra $30 (I'll subsidize the rest) and please have a parent complete this waiver and bring the original with you:

Sunday:  Gould Road Race.  I'll post the info as soon as I receive it.   I believe the race starts at 11 am, so we should be back to Woodstock between 6-8 pm on Sunday night.

For parents, weekend costs will be as follows:

Meals:  Sat lunch, Sat dinner, Sun. breakfast, Sun. lunch on way home:  $75-$100.
Optional off-roading adventure:  $30.

Entry fee for Turtle Pond is paid in advance when pre-entering and there is no entry fee for the prep school races.

Racers, please confirm with me who will be racing Turtle Pond/Gould/Off-roading all or part thereof.
