KMS Cycling Team Program Detailed Overview

The KMS Cycling Team is a comprehensive junior cycling development program. The team is coached by 1985 US Junior Worlds Team Member, 1989 US Collegiate National Champion, past pro racer and 30- year racing veteran, Peter Vollers, and Development Team Coach, Brad Ramsay. All team equipment and technical assistance is provided by the The Start House Ski and Bike Shop in Woodstock, Vermont.

The program starts with children of young ages with weekly bike rides (on any bike) from the Start House. These rides are organized by our elite and development team members so we have immediate integration of all levels of the team. During the summer months on Tuesday evenings, some of our cubs/kids team members have their first racing experience on the mini infield track at Twin-State Speedway in Claremont, NH and our cubs are encouraged to take part in the many cub-level cyclocross races taking place all over New England in the fall and winter.

From our cubs/kids team, the riders progress to the KMS Development Team. Many team members will also join our program at this level. KMS Development Team members focus their racing on New England prep school league racing as well Eastern Conference Collegiate Racing in the spring (KMS worked with USA Cycling and eastern conference promoters and officials to arrange for any high school student in the country to register a team and race in the well-developed collegiate conference races) and northeast region USAC races, including the entire fall/winter cyclocross season.

From our development team, some of our top juniors graduate to the KMS/Start House Cycling Team (KMS elite team). These riders are heavily supported with racing bikes for both road and cyclocross from Trek and Bontrager from the Start House, free kits and help with entry fees and travel expenses so they can attend international races like the International Junior Tour of Ireland , the Tour de Rimouski, the US Junior National Championships and other top level races. The team also takes part in the full New England cyclocross season.

Many of the riders on both the KMS development team and the elite team attend our sponsoring school, Killington Mountain School, which now offers a full-time cycling program where students in grades 8 thru 12 can attend the school while taking part in the KMS Cycling Team program. Just like with KMS' skiing and snowboarding programs, the cycling student-athlete's curriculum is arranged around their training and racing program to allow for maximum flexibility. The KMS school program is a great way for kids who are not from the Woodstock area to take part in our program and train and race with the team on a full-time basis.

If you're interested in the KMS Cycling Team program, please contact Head Coach, Peter Vollers, at pvollers@killingtonmountainschool.org or call him at 802-291-2419 or KMS Development Team Coach, Brad Ramsay, at bramsay@killingtonmountainschool.org.

PREP SCHOOL MTB SEASON IS HERE!

KMS Cycling Team, the prep school mt. bike racing season is finally here! Racing begins this coming Wednesday, September 21, at Proctor and continues thru the first Wed in November and finals are the first Sat. in November.

There is no requirement to do any minimum number of races to be on the KMS team for the mtb season, so it's fine to just do whatever races you can.

Each Wed, we'll leave the SH at 12 noon and most races start at 3:30 pm. The race schedule has been posted on the team website as part of our overall racing schedule.

There are no specific team training rides, although all riders are highly encouraged to attend the WBC weekly Thurs night mt. bike ride (with lights) until snow flies.

Here's the team roster I have so far:

Women: Erin Donohue

Mens A: Ansel Dickey, Alden Suokko, Kenny McNeil Mens B: Tommy Shebell Mens C: Eli Grossman

The team jerseys will be fully sublimated long-sleeve free ride jerseys any any shorts you'd like to wear (some kids will be sporting bermudas). Jerseys are in and are $75. You can give me a check when I see you.

If anyone else is interested in racing, please let me know asap. Otherwise, I'll expect to see all team members ready to go at the SH this Wed at noon. Please have bikes tuned ahead of time as there will be no time for tuning/repairs before the races.

Thanks!

Coaches Vollers and Hadley

Entering for cross races

Hi all:

The team website is up to date for the cross races we'll be doing in the near future, so take a look and see which races you'd like to do and go ahead and enter on your own. I'll keep an eye on the confirmed rider list on bikereg to see who's going. For now, it would be good to have everyone enter the Green Mountain Cross race this Sat and then the Noreaster cross race in Burlington on Sept. 24.

Almost every cross race has a cub junior (14 and under) category, so all of our cub crossers are welcome to race. There were about 20 (YES 20!) cub racers at the race in Maynard last Sun!

To clarify, it's my understanding that we have the following licensed cross racers in the team:

Erin Donohue

Alden Suokko

Ansel Dickey

Ely Grossman

Carl Gebhardt

To be eligible to race most of the races, the cub junior will need to turn 10 years old no later than sometime in 2012. Please let me know if any of our kid racers are interested as I have a 24" inch Redline cross bike at our disposal for anyone who doesn't have a cross bike.

Thanks!

Peter

Plan for the week

Congrats to the club cyclocrossers for a great season opener at the Quadcross race in Maynard, MA. Jim Giller was 6th in the Cat 4 55 plus, Coach was 4th in the Cat 1-3 45 plus and Ansel Dickey was 4th in the Juniors. Ansel was leading the race handily before he made the dreaded error of not fully releasing his left foot from the pedal before he dismounted into a small barricade and run-up. Let's just say he'll never make that mistake again.

Plan for the week:

Today: kids ride at 5 (leave at 5:30). We'll do some cross drills on the ride.

Tues: cross training race at Harpoon. Van leaves at 5. Kids' tutorial at 5:40, race starts at 6.

Wed: usual dirt road ride. Leave by 5:30 sharp.

Thurs: mt. bike ride at Brownsville triangle. Lights are mandatory now, so see Dan at the SH if you don't have yours yet.

Friday: TSR

Saturday: Green Mountain Cross race in Williston. All team Cubs (9-14 year olds) welcome!

Sunday: Portsmouth Criterium. Kids race too!

KMS team see team website for race links and registration details.
