I never truly realized just how much fun racing bikes could be before we fully immersed ourselves as a team into the whole scene. There we were, me, Ansel, Alden, Erin, Peter, Jr. and Jack Watson, parked with several other fully decked out pro level teams at an active dairy farm in the wilds of Maine riding our bikes through ankle-deep primordial mud all weekend. It just doesn't get any better! This is the prestigious Verge New England Cyclocross Series and I can now truly say that the KMS Cycling Team is making its mark on the New England cross scene. In the women's Cat 3/4, we had Erin in 12th or Sat and 11th on Sun, both days finishing the race with her bike weighing about 50 pounds due to the mud build-up. In the Cat 3/Jr's, Ansel Dickey had another breakthrough result weekend with 7th on Sat and 6th on Sun (top 5 for juniors), moving him up substantially in the series overall. Alden and Peter, Jr. were also top 50 in that race both days and top 10 for juniors. Coach even had a little breakthough in the M45 with 6th on Sat and 4th on Sun, 8 seconds out of the podium. Over in NY, Jim Giller hit Saratoga cross and came 6th in the all-together Master's 35, 45 and 55.
For this week:
Monday: fun-filled skill-building exercises at the Gebhardts, 4-5ish.
Tues: Dirt road ride from the SH at 4.
Wed: Prep school mt. bike race at Dublin School. Leave the SH at noon. Stop at the Quechee Subway for lunch.
Thurs: night mtb ride at Aqueduct at 6. We'll try not to have Dan break his chain in the first half mile this week!
Fri: TSR
Sun: "Wicked Creepy" Cross in Bennington. Great grass-roots level Vermont racing with a kids' costume race to boot!
